Preparations!

Physical preparations... After high school Dallin got a scholarship to BYU in Provo. When he got home he went to work at Jamba Juice. He worked all summer and saved his money. He was able to pay for all his things he would need to take on his mission and still have money to pay for part of his mission. A mission currently costs $400 a month. Good job Dallin! Here he is doing a little shopping... I was privileged to be with him at these 2 stores but he did a lot of the shopping without me. I was not thrilled about that but, what can I say? °Ü°

He also had to get shots to go to Brasil but he was NOT big on me taking pictures there so...

Not only does a missionary need to prepare physically for their mission but they also need to prepare spiritually... He was able to go to the temple several times before he left... here is some pictures on Saturday before he left. We went to the San Diego temple with Kyle!

Very happy parents...

Dallin and Kyle are just about the only guys left from their large group of friends... Kyle was called to serve in Columbia, he enters the MTC Jan.19, 2011
I wanted to add this great picture! When Brad was serving as the young men's president they took the Priests up to Salt Lake City to go to Conference...
The 1st 2 boys are younger so they are waiting to be able to go and serve... then we have Brennen Burgoyne serving in North Carolina, Ricky Brambila serving in Honduras, Sam Sprunt in Portuga, Collin Stewart in Bolivia, Dallin in Brasil, Kyle in Columbia, Mike Marchetti in Florida, and Tanner Hemphill in Brasil! What a great group of young men!
Dallin, your mom and dad could not be happier!!! We love you!

Dallin's Endowment

When Dallin got his mission call we decided it would be nice to go to Utah for him to be endowed so that his brothers could be there in the temple with him! It was a VERY quick trip and I wish I would have taken more pics!!! We left on Thurs. night (Sept 2) when Dallin got off work (for the record he works at Jamba Juice). We went to Vegas that night and spent the night with Brad's brother and his family. Chad got up early and went to seminary with his cousins - his goal is to have 100% attendance all 4 years, as did his brothers! We then picked him up from seminary and drove up to Lehi.

Dallin and Brad left early, they had to be at the temple 90 minutes before the rest of us. Aren't they handsome?!!!
Here is a group shot after we came out of the temple... unfortunately my brother and his wife (Dirk and Ellen) left before we all got out of the temple!

Derek, Brittany, Grandpa Bergquist, Grandma Bergquist, Jennifer, Greg, Carissa, Dallin, Brad, me, Grandma Measles, Devin and Diana, it was a nice night and SO wonderful to have so many family members with us! It was a wonderful experience!

The Mission Call!!!

Friday, Aug. 20th,
Dallin received his mission call in the mail!!!!
He and I were both at work... Brad and Devin were playing golf... Chad was at school... Diana was the only one at home. Devin and Brad called her and told her to go look... YEP, the BIG WHITE envelope was there! Anyone who has had family serve a mission knows EXACTLY what that envelope looks like!!! I had really hoped they wouldn't tell him and they would just let him find it when he got home, but we were ALL just as excited as he was! So, Brad texted Dallin and told him it was there!!!

We really had expected it on Thurs... we were at the beach on Thurs and Brad checked the mail, he texted us that day and told us it wasn't there, but the boys thought for sure he was playing a trick on them.... so, on Friday Dallin was a little nervous (again) that his dad was just teasing!

Dallin got off work at 4... I didn't get off till 5! When I got home the front room was already filled with his friends!
He opened it and quickly put the paper over the call so he couldn't skip ahead and see WHERE...
and then he began to read it...

"Dear Elder Bergquist,"
AND THEN he started laughing!!! We thought for SURE he saw WHERE he was called to serve
Nope, he just kind of... well... freaked, haha, when he read ELDER BERGQUIST! It kind of excited him!
Okay, back to reading it...

"You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You are assigned to labor in the Brazil Belo Horizonte Mission""
EVERYONE YELLED AND CLAPPED!!!!! SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITING!!!!!!!
He had to finish reading it of course!
Well, the anticipation is over! We know WHERE Dallin will be living/serving/teaching for the next 2 years!!! BRASIL!!!
Here is a group shot as he was reading... 2 lap tops were on (skype) Brittany and Derek were watching on one and Kaitlin was watching on the other! Blake was on the cell phone!

THEN he was on the cell phone calling and texting others!!!

In our office we have a map on the wall with all the flags of where all our other family members have served... Dallin went in to put his pin in and it was already there!!
Chad had beat him to it!!!

2 of his best friends... Farryn and Aimee!
(You might notice that he had changed into grubbies... he was READY to go on their over night herping trip ~ BOYS.)
A couple of his nonmember friends... Kyle and Bryce!
Dallin, we are SO proud of you! So grateful that you have the deisre to go and share the restored gospel with Heavenly Father's other children... the people of Brasil will be blessed to have you!!! You will love them and they will love you! You are such a great young man... thank you!!!
We were SO glad that Diana and Devin were here when you opened your call!!! (I can't believe we didn't get a pic of them with Dal! But, if you look in the mirror you can see Devo and Diana is sitting in the chair to the right of us...)
I also think it is very exciting because his oldest brother also serve in Brasil, now they will both know Portuguese! Here is a picture of our handsome missionary, Elder Bergquist!

Dallin's Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

I am Dallin's mom and I have decided to make a blog of his mission, a sort of journal if you will...

Anyway... here goes...

My husband served his mission in Austria from Aug 1975 - Aug 1977. Brad was blessed to be born under the covenant (meaning his parents were members of the church and had been sealed in the temple. Therefore they, and their children born to them, would be sealed as a family throughout all of eternity, if they live worthy). Thank goodness for missionaries that served in Plainview, Texas, my parents heard about the gospel and were baptized and then sealed for eternity too! Brad and I met at BYU and we were sealed in the St. George temple. Ever since our first son was born we have prayed that our boys would have the desire to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. When we taught them to pray that is one thing that we taught them to say in their prayers... We realize how blessed we are to know that families can be together forever!!! AND, how blessed we are to know of the atonement, so that we can repent and return home to our Father in Heaven!!! So, we want our boys to go and serve and teach others of the great plan of Salvation so that they too can partake of these wonderful blessings too!

We are very happy that Dallin has chosen to go and serve the Lord! Dallin is the fourth of our five sons. Here is a picture of him with his 4 bothers shortly before he left!
